families with children from china of middle tennessee

Connie Mathews
Preschool Liaison

Connie grew up in Auburn, Alabama.  She first came to Nashville to attend undergraduate school at Vanderbilt University and promptly fell in love with the city.  After college, she traveled the world with the Peace Corps and then lived in several different states, but she always hoped she'd be able to return to Nashville permanently. In 2005, her dream came true when she landed a job as a professor of English as a Second Language at a local college.  Through her job, she met her (now) husband, and in 2014, they adopted their son from China.  Connie values the relationships with other adoptive families that the FCC has brought to her life. On the FCC board, she focuses on facilitating connections between families of preschool-aged children.

Three Fun Facts:

1) In the Peace Corps, Connie lived for two years in a small village in Uzbekistan.

2) She has played the violin since she was five years old.

3) She is a huge Vanderbilt football fan.  Go Dores!

Leslie Edgell
Treasurer

Leslie was born in Nashville but did her "Tour of the South" from ages 3-16, living in Knoxville, TN, Orlando, FL, and Wilmington, NC before settling again in Nashville. After graduating from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Leslie went back to school for some accounting classes and later sat for and passed the Certified Public Accountant exam. She worked in public accounting for eight years before leaving her job to stay home full-time with her daughter. In spring of 2013, Leslie and her husband brought home their first daughter from China. They traveled back to China in September of 2015 to bring home their second daughter, who sadly passed away in March 2016 after a series of infections and complications from open-heart surgery. Leslie enjoys connecting with families through the FCC and is interested in helping families who are preparing to travel or have recently returned home. She serves as Treasurer on the Board.
